Managing Applications
This guide is the entry point for managing applications in Self-Service: understanding the application types, running the procedures that every type shares, and finding the pages specific to each type. An application registration gives the application access to the Kafka cluster and lets the portal show the active streaming pipelines; you can register an application before it is built or released.

Understand the types
Every application has a type that records who runs it and how the platform manages it: self-managed, Managed Connector, Managed KSML, or Managed Flink SQL. The type decides where the workload runs and which pages apply to it. See Application types for what each type is and how to choose, and for what application visibility controls.
Procedures shared by every type
Some procedures apply to an application whatever its type. They are documented once and linked from each type’s pages:
-
Configuring authentication to Kafka, with SASL or SSL.
-
Requesting topic access to produce to or consume from a topic.
-
Updating an application after it has been registered.
-
Deleting an application and its connected resources.
-
Viewing Application Insights, such as consumer lag on a running application.
Pages by application type
Each application type has its own pages for registration and the tasks unique to it:
-
Self-managed applications, including Kafka Streams applications.
