Streaming Installation
This guide introduces installing Axual Streaming, the data plane: the Kafka cluster that holds the data, Apicurio Registry that holds the schemas, and the Rest Proxy that fronts Kafka for clients without a Kafka library. Its counterpart, Governance Installation, installs the control plane that manages one or more of these clusters. For what each streaming component does, see Streaming Components.

Goal |
Find the guide needed to install and enable a component of the streaming layer. |
Audience |
Platform Operators with access to the target namespace and the Axual Helm registry. |
When to use |
Stage 3 of The installation order, after Prerequisites and before Governance Installation. |
The pages in this section cover the streaming layer, starting with the chart that deploys it:
-
How to Deploy Axual Kafka installs the Kafka cluster itself, the standalone chart the rest of the layer runs on top of.
-
Install Axual Streaming creates the values file, selects the components to enable, and installs or removes the chart.
-
Apicurio Registry Installation groups the pages for enabling Apicurio Registry v3, configuring its authentication, and the Auth Proxy that lets clients use OAuth.
-
How to Improve Rest Proxy Availability covers running several Rest Proxy instances behind a load balancer.
Every value the chart accepts is listed per component, beside that component’s other details: Kafka Chart Values Reference and Rest Proxy Chart Values Reference.
To keep the Rest Proxy and Auth Proxy credentials out of the values file, see How to Store Component Credentials in a Kubernetes Secret.
A Kafka cluster that already exists does not need this stage at all. Governance can manage a cluster it did not deploy, which is the scenario Quick Setup calls governance only. When a chart installs but the brokers stay unreachable, start from Troubleshooting.
